The Sun and the Sand

This past week I had the opportunity to visit one of my favorite places to be, the beach. While I have grown up in San Diego, I never tire of the sounds of the waves crashing and the sun on my skin. The beach is a very tranquil place for me, as it is for many others. I enjoy visiting during my school breaks. It allows me to calm all my stresses and anxieties about school. It also allows me to indulge in one of my favorite beach activities; crochet.

Months ago Lion Brand Yarn came out with their newest lovely creation; mandala cakes. This yarn is very thin but holds up well through various stitches. It’s a #3 weight so it would be perfect for any wearable crochet items. I instantly fell in love with these Mandala cakes so I bought a few in the color genie. I’ve been hanging onto them since then; just waiting for the perfect project.

One of my favorite pattern designers, Ashlea Konecny, created a pattern for a lightweight shawl right before my trip. (How convenient!) When I saw the pattern I knew just what yarn would be perfect. It only took a couple days of off-and-on crocheting (some of which occurred at the beach) to create this beauty. You can find the pattern on her blog Heart Hook Home.

Now the beach trip is over and I will be returning to school soon. I will still have this shawl as a reminder of my relaxing time at the beach. Until next time!

Want this shawl? Send me a message! I can make it in just about any size or color!

Happy Stitching!

Love your blog. Loved the shawl cover-up too. I am looking for fitted pullover and tees for the mandala cakes because when it is very cold I wear cardigans (Lands End the best when not handmade). Do you know of any?

I can’t find the pattern, or I don’t recognize it! What is the name of the pattern? Thanks!
