Senescence Sweater

As a crocheter, fall is one of my favorite times of the year because I get to wear all my cozy makes. I just love bundling up in a cozy sweater and it’s even more special knowing I made the sweater myself.

The Inspiration

This latest sweater design is already my favorite sweater I’ve ever designed. Hands down! I’ll be honest with you, I’ve never made a sweater that was a top-down design or a yoke design before. I loved the idea of creating a design this way so I could try it on as I went to check for sizing and the bonus of no seaming.

The Name

I decided to name this design the Senescence Sweater. You may be wondering where I got that idea from. Well, senescence (se·nes·cence) is the process by which leaves change color in the fall. I thought this name was so fitting for this time of year. You can customize the colors of this design to create your own autumn leaves color pallet.

The Yarn

For this design I used Pima Cotton by Lion Brand and I was pleasantly surprised by this yarn. Normally, when a yarn is 100% cotton it can be scratchy and not good for wearable items. However, this yarn is one of the softest yarns I’ve ever used. This yarn is 100% pima cotton and comes in a variety of colors. I used the colors antique, stone, spice and blueprint. Another bonus of this yarn is that it is 100% cotton. There is no other component to it. In case you didn’t know, I am trying to create designs using more sustainable yarn options besides acrylic and polyester. I prefer to work with natural fibers or plant-based fibers that are more friendly to our planet.

Size inclusivity is very important to me so this pattern is written for sizes XS (S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL). If you want to use Pima Cotton you will need:
