Pattern: Grandma’s Hot Pad

Note: Be sure to use 100% cotton yarn for this project. Other yarns will burn and melt when heated. The yarn used in the example is Lily’s Sugar N’ Cream in the colors chocolate (MC) and warm brown (SC). Two skeins of the main color are needed and one skein of the secondary color is needed for this project. You will also need a size H crochet hook. You can find one of my favorite sets here.
For this project you will need approx. 190 yards of the main color and 48 yards of the secondary color (used for the edging).

Stitches used:
Ch – chain
Sl st- slip stitch
Sc- single crochet
Hdc- half double crochet
Dc- double crochet
Pattern:
Round (make 2)
Ch 3. Sl st into first ch to form a ring.
Row 1: Ch 2, 11 dc into ring (12 dc total. Ch 2 counts as first dc) sl st to top of ch 2
Row 2: Ch 2. 2 dc in each st. Sl st to top of ch 2
Row 3: Ch 2. *2 dc inc., 1 dc, 2dc. Repeat from * to end. Sl st to top of ch 2
Row 4: Ch 2. *2 dc inc., 2 dc, 2dc inc. Repeat from * to end. Sl st to top of ch 2
Row 5: Ch 2. *2 dc inc., 3 dc, 2dc inc. Repeat from * to end. Sl st to top of ch 2
Row 6: Ch 2. *2 dc inc., 4 dc, 2dc inc. Repeat from * to end. Sl st to top of ch 2
Row 7: Ch 2. *2 dc inc., 5 dc, 2dc inc. Repeat from * to end. Sl st to top of ch 2
Cut and weave in the end.
Edging:
Lay both rounds on top of each other.
Connect yarn with second color to both rounds by sl st through both rounds. For the edging you will be inserting your hook through the st space of both rounds since they are laying on top of each other.
Row 1: *Ch 5. Sk 1 st. Sl st into next st. Repeat from * sl st to first st
Row 2: *Sc, hdc, 2 dc, hdc, sc in the ch 5 space. Repeat from * in each chain 5 space around. Sl st into the first sp to finish. Cut and weave in end.
